Examining the adjustment patterns of adults with multiple chronic pain conditions and multiple pain sites: More pain, no gain

An increasingly recognized fact is that individuals with chronic pain often report multiple co-occurring pain conditions localized in multiple body areas.18 For example, a study using the National Health Interview Survey found that of the 21.9 million adults in the U.S. with pain who participated in the survey, more than 20% reported co-existing jaw/face pain, neck pain, back pain, and headache.28 A recent study noted that among 3,966 patients attending a multidisciplinary pain treatment center, about one third reported multiple chronic pain conditions.
