Pain is a common problem in diabetes. Almost 60% of individuals with diabetes experience persistent pain, frequently in the form of neuropathic pain 4. Further, individuals with diabetes who experience pain tend to have worse physical functioning and mental health than individuals without pain 4,22. As Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is the most common form of diabetes, representing approximately 90% of diabetes cases 46, identifying the factors that contribute to pain and associated disability in individuals with T2D is essential for developing effective treatments.
