Systemic administration of analgesic drugs (e.g., opioids) may cause severe side effects, especially when given repeatedly8. Local anesthetics (LA; e.g., ropivacaine (RVC)) have been used widely as simple and effective treatment for persistent pain with absent or reduced adverse effects 39. However, their analgesic effect lasts only several hours after single injection41.
